But, where is it recommended to use the Wood for exterior? When speaking of Wood for exterior, it is necessary to first mention that the types of wood that we handle at Los Alpes are two, according to the geographical origin: National (Mexico) and American. We could offer the “Treated Wood for exterior” along with the American wood. For this reason, this type of wood is especially recommended to use it outdoors, for example in docks, rails, garden furniture or playgrounds.

What is the “Treated Wood for exterior” and why is it recommended? This wood receives such name (treated wood or Wood for exterior) because, indeed, it has been through a specialized treatment which is called Bethell (vacuum-pressure-vacuum). This treatment for the Wood for exterior consists of submitting the wood into a vacuum with the purpose of it opening its pores. This process extends to 30 minutes; right after this, the autoclave chamber is completely filled with water and the protection product, it is then when the one hour period begins in which the wood is in a 9 to 10 bar pressure.

This way, the soluble salts penetrate into the wood and allow the water and the protection product to cover the sapwood entirely. After the pressure, and once the chamber is empty of water, the vacuum process must be repeated. This time its function is to eliminate the water solution and left over protection product on the wood so that what it has retained inside could be completely set.
